Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions Revealed – Board Game-Like RPG Mode Includes Factions, Minigames, and More

Gather a party of characters and traverse a map, taking on Invaders from different realms while leveling up and earning loot and Kurrency.

NetherRealm Studios has finally confirmed Invasions, new mode in Mortal Kombat 1. A new PlayStation Blog post reveals it to be a board game-like structure where you gather a party and set out on an adventure to battle Invaders from other dimensions.

The story sees different factions from opposing realms trying to conquer each other, so you’ll face variants of established characters, like a different Scorpion. Invaders offer unique challenges and unlockables and will seemingly persist “throughout the game’s lifespan.”

There are role-playing mechanics like level-ups, loot and more, as you defeat enemies (with random encounters and keys interspersed) and unlock new areas. The included GIFs indicate different stats, equippable items like Talismans and Relics, and even the Feral Royal character, which seems to be an alternate dimension of Kitana.

You’ll traverse different realms and receive in-game Kurrency, concept art and other “goodies” usable in other modes (so potentially new outfits). Mini-games also make their long-awaited return, including the Arcade Towers and Test Your Might.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the latest trailer here.
