God of War Ragnarok DLC Unlikely to Happen, Director Says

God of War Ragnarok game director Eric Williams says he "wouldn't count" on the game getting any post-launch DLC.

We’ve known for a while now that God of War Ragnarok was going to be the final game in the series’ Norse saga, but though it has indeed wrapped up the main narrative arc that kicked off with the 2018 title, there are still questions that it leaves unanswered. Many have speculated that the resolution to some of those loose threads might arrive in post-launch DLC- but as it turns out, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen.

Speaking recently with Kinda Funny, when asked about the same, God of War Ragnarok game director Eric Williams said that the game is unlikely to get an expansion.

“I don’t know, man, that game is big,” Williams said. “I think we put everything we had into it, so I wouldn’t count on it.”

Santa Monica Studio has never really been a developer that releases expansions for is games once they’ve released, so it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise that it isn’t breaking that pattern with God of War Ragnarok.

What does that mean for the series’ immediate future though? Is it going to be a long wait till we get the next mainline God of War game, or could we perhaps see the launch of a smaller standalone sequel as a stopgap before then, a la Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales? Santa Monica Studio has said that it’s got number of projects in the works, but with Ragnarok only just having launched, it’s unlikely that we’ll be hearing more about what’s next for the developer anytime soon.

God of War Ragnarok is available on PS5 and PS4. You can read our review of the game through here.
