Baldur’s Gate 3 – PC Digital Deluxe Owners Won’t Get a 72-Hour Head Start

"Shifting the release date – and thus communication around the Digital Deluxe Editions across PS5 and PC – came with a few complexities."

Of all the major releases this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is definitely in the upper echelons. In early access since October 2020, it’s launching for PC first in August. Those who buy into early access right now will be automatically upgraded to the Digital Deluxe Edition.

It provides bonuses like the Divinity Bard Song Pack, the Adventurer’s Pouch, the digital OST, a digital artbook, digital character sheets, the Treasures of Rivellon Pack and an in-game dice skin. However, it doesn’t provide a 72-hour head start like for PS5 players.

“Shifting the release date – and thus communication around the Digital Deluxe Editions across PS5 and PC – came with a few complexities that we didn’t manage to communicate very well, so we thought it best to clarify it here, given that a 72-hour head start on PC wouldn’t have been plausible,” said the developer on a Steam post. Then again, given how the PC version was meant to launch on August 31st, this isn’t the worst possible outcome.

Larian also reiterated that save files from early access would not transfer over to the full game since it’s “so vastly different that it’s not possible.” It makes sense, especially since Act 1 is getting bigger in the final release.

Baldur’s Gate 3 launches on August 3rd for PC and September 6th for PS5. Larian also hopes to release the Xbox Series X/S versions later this year once it works out its issues with the split-screen co-op.
