Cyberpunk 2077 – Every Side Quest Will Feel Like A Complete Story In and of Itself, Says CDPR

"We want to make sure that all of them are up to the standards of the main quest."

CD Projekt RED have been talking up the side quests of their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 a great deal lately, talking about how they will be intrinsically tied to the main story, and how they plan to make them unlike anything we’ve seen before in other games- which is to be expected, coming from the people who made The Witcher 3.

In the November issue of EDGE, Cyberpunk 2077 is featured quite prominently, as we reported earlier, and as expected, side quests are one of the many things the story talks about. CD Projekt RED indeed has great ambitions for the side quests in its upcoming RPG (via Reddit).

“We want to make sure that all of them are up to the standards of the main quest,” the developers say. “That there’s nothing that feels like filler, just something to do while waiting for the next quest, or to get more money to buy the next thing. We don’t really like to do that. We want to make sure that every quest feels like a complete story in and of itself.”

As such, side quests in Cyberpunk 2077 will be used to fully flesh out stories, themes, characters, and arcs that may not have gotten enough screen time in the game’s main story. Additionally, the story mentions that players will also have a variety of options in terms of how they want to approach the quests, and won’t usually be limited by arbitrary choices.

“We don’t artificially limit ourselves,” says Patrick Mills, quest designer. “Our philosophy for quest design is, ‘If the player can logically do it, then they can’. And if they can’t, then we have to come up with a damn good reason why.”

Recently, CD Projekt RED also spoke about the choice and consequence mechanics in the game, and how they’re using these as a tool to tell an authentic, mature story where decisions aren’t always necessarily good or bad. Read more on that through here.

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated for launch on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC- but when exactly that will be is completely up in the air right now. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates.
