Less than half a week ago, Blizzard announced that their newest World of Warcraft expansion, Shadowlands, had broken launch sales record for PC games. With 3.7 million units sold in a day, it became the fastest selling PC game of all time, beating a record that was previously held by Blizzard’s own Diablo 3. Well, that record, it seems has been broken twice in quick succession now, with Cyberpunk 2077 snatching the crown from the MMORPG’s expansion.

Though CD Projekt RED did not explicitly state the same, the sales figures they provided yesterday yield that result. The Polish company announced that the game had already sold 8 million copies at launch thanks to a large number of pre-orders, before then confirming that 59% of those sales had come on PC. That equates to 4.72 million units sold on launch day, over a million units more than what Shadowlands managed at launch. Keep in mind that this is only accounting for pre-orders- the total tally for launch sales, which will include launch day sales numbers, will likely be even higher.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports coming sometime in 2021. At launch, it also crossed 1 million peak concurrent players on Steam.
