Cyberpunk 2077 Might Be “Too Heavy” For Switch – CD Projekt RED

CD Projekt RED's John Mamais is also unsure about the game's length.

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt RED is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, which suffered a delay from April to September. The extra time will likely pay off in polish, especially with the RPG touted as having 75 side missions with strong story elements. While it’s currently slated for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, is there a chance of a Switch port down the line?

Krakow studio head John Mamais was asked by OnMSFT if there were plans for the same. He replied, “Not as far as I know. I don’t know if Cyberpunk 2077 would work on the Nintendo Switch. It might be too heavy for it. But then, we did put Witcher 3 on it and we thought that would be too heavy too but somehow we pulled it off.”

Though The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt suffered some downgrades in visuals, the Switch version runs remarkably well. So there could be hope for Cyberpunk 2077. The developer has stated in recent weeks that it’s focusing on current gen platforms instead of next-gen, and Mamais reaffirmed the same here.

What’s more interesting is the overall length of the game. Regarding the length, Mamais said, “We’re not sure… yet. We’re still finishing the game now and there are different ways to play through it. There’s different character builds and it’s very non-linear. Because you can play through it in so many different ways, it’s a little bit risky to state the length of time. How do you figure that out? Especially when there’s open-world and all of the other content.”

This mirrors the studio’s statement back in November when it believed the game would be shorter than The Witcher 3, but more replayable. With so much choice and the sheer amount of content being promised, players should be busy enjoying everything Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer for a good long while. It’s out on September 17th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
