Phantom Libertythe first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, will be launching in 2023, and there’s still plenty we don’t know about it yet. For instance, even though it’s been largely assumed that it’ll be a paid expansion since long before it was even announced, that’s actually not something that CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed- well, until now, that is.

In a statement to GamesRadar, the Polish company confirmed that unlike the recent Edgerunners updatePhantom Liberty will not be free. “As for the expansion’s pricing – we have not revealed exact details yet, but it will be a paid one,” CDPR added.

Of course, given the scope of the expansion and the fact that it was clearly going to be a much meatier and more substantial piece of new content, there wasn’t ever really any question of whether or not it would be a free update. But there- that’s now been officially confirmed by CD Projekt RED as well.

Unlike the base game, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be skipping last-gen consoles. When it releases, it will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

In September, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 had sold over 20 million units worldwide. The open world action RPG has enjoyed a resurgence in recent weeks, and was played by over a million players every day for four consecutive weeks. Earlier this month, a new update was released for the game, adding support for FSR 2.1 on current-gen consoles.

CD Projekt RED is also gearing up to begin development of Project Orion, a full-fledged sequel to Cyberpunk 2077which will be handled by the company’s newly-established North American wing.
