Cyberpunk 2077 Still Has “Nearly Half” of Development Team – CD Projekt President

CD Projekt's Adam Kiciński says the company's intends to "live up what we promised." A "large part" of the team is working to ensure the game "provides even better entertainment."

CD Projekt RED revealed its first quarter financial results recently and noted profits to be down by 64.7 percent. Cyberpunk 2077, the studio’s last major release which faced significant controversy, made up 60 percent of first quarter product sales. Though the studio didn’t have much to announce with regards to improvements, CD Projekt president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński re-iterated the studio’s commitment to the same.

“We intend to live up to what we promised our gamers in January. While we already see major improvements, a large part of the team continues to work on making sure that Cyberpunk provides even better entertainment to gamers,” said Kiciński on the earnings stream. Speaking to investors, Kiciński also revealed that “nearly half” of the game’s development team were either working on previous-gen versions or the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. In the meantime, smaller teams have shifted to pre-production on unannounced projects (which will begin development in 2022).

“There are teams, smaller teams, in transformation, preparing to work on such content. Next year is the year when we want to do discrete teams and work full-scale – of course, depending on the project and the different phases on future triple-A content.”

Cyberpunk 2077 launched on December 10th for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia. Its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are currently slated to release in the second half of 2021. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
