cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 will be offering similar (if not greater) degrees of freedom to players in its narrative as CD Projekt RED’s previous game, The Witcher did, from romances to how your choices affect the way the story ends. But the game is taking things a step further and offering freedom in other areas as well. Where The Witcher 3’s actual gameplay mechanics stood in stark contrast to its narrative in terms of how restrictive they were, Cyberpunk 2077 is promising to offer a plethora of options to players even in how they play.

That, of course, extends to weapons as well. We got a chance to interview Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz recently, and during our chat, he gave us some interesting details on the weapons, the variety that will be on offer in the game for players to use – from melee weapons to ranged ones – and how customizable they will be.

“You can customize the weapons in a number of ways,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “You can attach scopes, you can attach silencers, things like those. It’s based, of course, on a specific weapon and how many slots for improvements they have. As for how many types of weapons we have— I remember just a number of them. But we have quite many of them. So there are melee weapons: katana, hammer, knife, Nanowire — which is basically these wires that you can use to fight. But you can also use them if you’re a Net Runner to hack remotely into people or devices. On top of that we have a number of ranged weapons: we have heavy guns, light guns, light machine guns, revolvers, sniper rifles.”

In the same interview, Tomaszkiewicz also told us that, similar to The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 has no morality system. Read more on that through here. Our full interview with Tomaszkiewicz will be going live soon, so stay tuned.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out on April 16, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. When it launches, you’re going to have to clear up a lot of storage space on your system.
