CD Projekt RED have gone out of their way to talk about how choice will be an important thing in Cyberpunk 2077- not just in terms of narrative, which is to be expected from a game by the studio anyway, but also in terms of gameplay, and how players will be able to choose, from several varying styles of play, whichever one they like best, and suits them the most.

That, apparently, will extend to the weapons you can use in the game as well. Speaking in an interview with French website Jeuxactu, lead cinematic animator Maciej Pietras spoke about weapons in the game, and how they will range across several different styles, with each having unique benefits and uses. From having weapons that can shoot bullets that ricochet of walls, to weapons that can shoot homing bullets, to blades that can not only be used in melee combat, but also help you climb walls, there’s going to be plenty of weapon variety in Cyberpunk 2077, which will also tie in with the game’s multi-layered progression mechanics.

“In the demo, you could see several types of weapons and different combat systems,” said Pietras. ” All this is related to the class of the character that you will create, according to the skills you will improve. There will indeed be advantages to using this or that weapon, depending on how you level up your character. You will have the choice between technological weapons, powerful weapons, and intelligent weapons, and each of them will allow you to approach the game in several different ways.”

“For example, powerful weapons have a boost that allows weapons to ricochet against the walls and thus reach enemies hidden behind walls,” he continued. “Smart weapons take advantage of an autolock that can target an enemy with homing bullets. As for the melee weapons, you could see the Mantis Blades in the demo. These are incredible weapons, which are attached to the body of the character and allow them to climb on walls, but also to kill enemies in hand-to-hand. There is also another weapon, the katana, that we did not show in the demo but is interesting.”

Cyberpunk 2077, which is targeted for a release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, currently remains without a launch date. Though there has been speculation that it’ll launch by the end of this year, CD Projekt RED insist on not giving out a release date until the game’s ready.
