cyberpunk 2077

A lot has been said about Cyberpunk 2077, from its cool and unique setting to the vast amount of freedoms you’ll have in general. But the game is also looking to be a technical marvel all around. As usually is the case, high-end PCs are where that sort of thing is going to really shine, especially since the game will not have native PS5 and Xbox Series X releases at launch. Unfortunately, trying to be top of the line can leave some people out, and in this case those with anything below DX12 will be out of luck.

Talking to PCGamesHardware, Marcin Gollent, Lead Graphics Programmer at CD Projekt RED, confirmed that the game will only support DX12. That means only Windows 10 will be optimal overall, though DX12 support for Windows 7 SP1 was introduced last year. But as of now, if you have Windows 8 or another OS without DX12 support, you’ll be out of luck.

“Thanks to the introduction of DX12 support for Windows 7 SP1 that Microsoft introduced last year, the game will run on this system. We do, and will continue to, test Cyberpunk 2077 on Windows 7 in an attempt to iron out any edge-cases that might arise. Unfortunately, Windows 8 didn’t receive its variant of DX12 libraries.”

While it’s possible there may be some workaround considering how inventive the PC scene generally is and how patches and updates usually are, but it seems out of the box, the game will only have that support. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release November 19th For PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with a Stadia version to come later. You can see the latest gameplay footage shown for the title through here.
