After its gameplay reveal at the Summer Game Fest Showcase, the press went hands-on with NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 over the weekend. While we’ve seen some matches, more raw gameplay is available via Jeff Gerstmann, which reveals some interesting new details. Check out the nearly 27-minute-long footage below.

The press demo featured four playable characters – Fire God Liu Kang, Kenshi, Sub-Zero and Kitana – with three Kameo fighters – Jax, Sonya and Kano. You can see a list of Attacks and Special Moves for Sub-Zero at 3:33 and Kameo Moves for Kano at 3:43. As indicated in the reveal, Kameo Fighters can use Fatalities. Kano has Heart Ripper, which does what you’d expect.

Another neat detail is the time of day changing for each stage, with Cage Mansion looking quite good at dawn and dusk. A Tower-like progression is seen at 6:24, though it’s unknown whether Towers return as a standalone mode. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months, especially with co-creator Ed Boon teasing lots more reveals.

Mortal Kombat 1 is out on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. A beta will take place in August.
